Content of the double page spread

For the content of the double page spread I have decided to do top ten tips for festival goes. This is because I feel it will be very handy for festival goers as they can get advice. I also feel that the tips should come from an artist that is popular with teenagers as it will attract the target market.
For the tips I have decided to research into things I feel important to do and take to festival and from that conduct a survey to whether people agree and what most people said and to create a top ten.

My research showed me that the most important things to take and do at a festival were:
  • Security
  • Gaffer tape
  • Waterproofs
  • Wellies
  • Hygiene
  • Making friends
  • Careful of guyropres
  • Torch
  • Stage times
  • Changing mobiles
  • Don't take too much stuff
  • Have fun
  • Good trolley
  • Perfect pitch

Preliminary Task

This where I created a school magazine and used all the common codes and conventions for that type of magazine, for example bar codes, headings, sub-headings main title headlines etc. to see what was involved and also this helped me see what it was like to make a front and contents page of a magazine and to link it with the target audience. In this case the target audience was students from west hatch, with a special Christmas edition.
The contents and the front cover both have the same font and colours so the magazine can be recognised.

I could make a few changes to make the contents page more exciting and stand out by putting in borders along the top edges and stressing words to make certain articles or interviews stand out.

Research into teen magazines

Some teenage magazines focus on music and films while other concentrated on other aspects that teenagers want to read about such as lifestyle issues. Many of these magazines were seen as junior versions of adult magazines such as Cosmopoliton. Many teenage magazines aim to target girls such as seventeen magazine, this is mainly due to teenage boys being interested in reading about activities rather than problem pages and lifestyle issues.
Seventeen Magazine

• An American magazine aimed at teenage girls.
• Started publication in 1944.
• The first magazine devoted to the needs and likes of adolescents.
• Aimed at ages 12-19.
However in Germany ‘Popcorn’ magazine aimed itself towards both genders and launched the magazine within five different countries.
The teenage magazine industry was extremely popular with new teenage magazines being launched however in the UK it seemed to be a deteriorating sector as it is highly saturated with mainly American companies.

Front Cover Analysis

This will help show the codes and conventions of music magazines. I can use this to help make my own product. so it is layed out in the form of a magazine.

Music Genres

Music can be split into various genres that fit certain groups of people which are usually stereotyped, for example Emo's, grungers, chavs etc. These are usually linked with certain music styles. Chavs are usually associated with pop and R 'N' B. By deciding which Genre my media product will use, it will help determine what sort of 'stereotype' I am aiming for therefore my target audience.

7 life style Values

The 7 lifestyle values are important to look at so you can understand your reader and know what sort of people you are aiming at and the codes and conventions would change due to the different lifestyles they lead. For example if you were a person looking for control, control is shown within Q magazine by the colour red and the bold outline around it representing dominance.

Why I Chose The Print Brief

I chose the print brief because I felt it would be the best way for me to be more creative and use different software. So I can manipulate pictures to create a more realistic product in comparison to profession media products. By doing the print brief it will help me know more about the codes and conventions often used in such media products.

To help me with creating my product I will do research into music magazines and conduct surveys. This will be very important because the audience are the people who buy the product so to create a successful product you need to understand your target audience.
